Do you have a NAPA Auto Parts store near you? If so, you can get a remanufactured alternator from them for $114, or possibly even less for the model they sell in-store only. Even if you don't have a store locally, you can order from them over the internet. There are others you can order from too, perhaps RockAuto.com or O'Reilly Auto Parts, but I only searched the NAPA database right at the moment, so there may be cheaper alternatives. 114 bones still isn't exactly chump change, but it's better than 300. Hope this helps.

You could also have yours rebuilt. Most towns have somebody that rewinds starter motors and rebuilds alternators. My experience is, that local shops do a much better job than the major re builders that supply the auto parts stores and are usually cheaper. Just a thought.

yeah find a local auto-elec/mechanics and get them to rebuild it, Where I work does it ourselves (small independent) and we even get a local BMW place getting their starters and alternators done here

try the junk yard.

In my opinion Alternators are not a normal failure item on eggs. they ususally last the life of the car. Zigg is at 250k and his is fine. same for my other high mile eggs & festivas

--------------------
Ziggy 1 --- '95 white 2dr 5sp a/c 252k, 43 top mpg (still got 'em)
No Name --- '95 teal 2 dr, 98K, bad clutch, sold it b4 I named it
Ziggy 2 --- '95 white 2dr 5sp a/c 147k split rear seat, 49.3 top mpg (decesed, mortaly injured in towing accident 2008)
Kermit --- '95 teal 2dr 5sp a/c 103k upgraded interior package
(Had 2 1988 Festivias in a past life. Over 200k on them too)

All pulled "Trapper" the '89 kamparoo camper on the backroads I should'a been drivin' my jeep on (4x4 aspire??)
